A Survey in Gwangju Metropolitan City Subway for People who have Mobility Handicapped. : About using Elevator

Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this research is to suggest the easy route from the elevator on the ground to platform when the people who have mobility handicapped use subway stations in line No.1 in Gwang-Ju Metropolitan City.

Method: We analyzed the present status of elevators and entrances with subway guide boards, route maps of subway stations and cameras. We started to analyze total 92 entrances from Pyeong-Dong station to Nok-Dong station, and made the sketch maps that indicate the route through from entrances to platforms when the people having mobility handicapped use elevators to get platforms.

Result: There are 5 stations to get easily from elevator to platform including Do-San station. The easiest stations are Pyeong-Dong, Nok-Dong station because they have platforms on the ground. But, Yang-Dong Maket station doesn¡¯t have any elevators, only has just one wheelchair lifter, so it was the hardiest station to use.

Conclusion: This study is to suggest the easy route from the elevator on the ground to platform and which subway entrance has the elevator on 20 subway stations in line No.1. And also expect to make easy and safety ways that to help use subway the people who have mobility handicapped, when that is going to give these information in early stage of design phase of line No.2. in Gwang-Ju Metropolitan City.
